Dynamic Reconfiguration- The Promising Technique for High Performance Computing

P.M. Bangare and M.B. Mali
Abstract

Reconfigurable Computing (RC) is becoming growingly interesting for different applications. RC is a computer structural design with combination of the ability to easily adjustable software and the high performance of hardware. RC is usually processed with extremely flexible, high speed computing fabrics like Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). The time required for reconfiguration is key problem in FPGAs. The reconfigurable time is also significant in case of small configure code. This paper presents the state of art in RC with performance issue that contributes to the performance factors like power, area and reconfiguration time. The existing approaches of RC viz. Self Integration Mechanism (SIM), Fine-Grain Dynamically Reconfiguration Architecture (FDR), static hardware task placement on Multi context FPGA (MCFPGA) and High Performance Multimode Memory Controllers are discussed in this paper. These aspects like hardware architecture, the routine protocol and the RC mode are given in detail for the approaches considered.
