Learning English for Maritime Polytecnic’s: Language English Learning Strategies and Proficiency

Abstract

This research used qualitative approach, for measuring proficiency in English learning. The research had been done at Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia (Polimarin) students’. The first step in the first meeting the researcher will teach maritime English as an English proficiency at nautical class. Meanwhile, the second step after the first meeting gave some questions and score. The third step the researchers continued teach maritime English in the same class, the fourth step continued repeating the third meeting and the subject matter before the last ten minutes. The resulted of proficiency 29 respondents, the first assessment 27.59% up of the standard, then the second 51.72%. The progress of evaluation with language English learning strategies and proficiency 24%.
