“Rural Women Empowerment through Microfinance-A Study on SHG”

Abstract

Microfinance is a provision of thrift credit and other financial services and provide products of very small amounts to the poor for enabling them to raise their income levels and improve their living standards. Women in rural areas are considered to be less empowered so empowering them is a key not only for the well-being of individuals, families and rural communities, but also for overall economic productivity. This paper mainly focuses on empowering rural women through microfinance. The aim of this study is to analyze whether rural women have been empowered through the provision of microfinance. The study reveals that respondents are aware about micro financing services provided by SHG. From this study we came to a conclusion that majority of the respondents has been empowered after joining SHG. It means that they have the capabilities of decision making power, increased their confidence level, improved their living standards and self-awareness level also increased.
