Solar power fed induction motor employed for water pumping is gaining importance where the availability of grid power supply is unpredictable. The output of the solar PV cell is given to a DC to DC step up converter (boost converter) to increase the voltage magnitude. Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm is employed to track maximum power point by varying the duty ratio of the boost converter. The voltage at the output of the boost converter is DC which is converted into AC by using a five level Cascaded H Bridge Multilevel Inverter (CHBMLI) that feeds the three phase squirrel cage induction motor. Various pulse width modulation techniques are employed for the five levels CHBMLI and the performance is analysed using MATLAB/Simulink. The best method is chosen on comparison based on harmonic distortion in the AC output voltage. MATLAB/Simulink is used to model and analyse the performance of the complete system.
