Storage Stability Analysis of Biodiesel Prepared from Jatropha Oil

Abstract

Worldwide the consumptions of fossil fuel increase day by day. In the coming years, the shortage of conventional fuel may be the biggest problem for the whole world. Biodiesel is a renewable source of energy along with the advantage of eco-friendly nature. So biodiesel can be the better alternate for the future to achieve the goal of energy production, demand, and supply. But still, biodiesel was not used for the commercial purpose due to the storage stability problem. This study is primarily focused on the storage stability for the biodiesel prepared by Jatropha oil. The effect of different characteristics was concluded on various storage conditions for long period stability storage. The two types of biodiesel B20 and B100 were examined in this work. The biodiesel samples were stored in three different conditions for the duration of six months. The observations were taken in the interval of every month. The study concludes that as the storage time increases the variation in distinguish characteristics also increases. Results also show that the rate of degradation increases, when biodiesel fuel samples were stored in presence of light and air. The study also suggested that the storage of B20 biodiesel in absence of light and air gives the best condition to storage. By doing such kind of storage we can retain all the characteristics, having values under standard limits up to four months. On the base of analysis it can be stated that B20 outperforms B100 in terms of storage stability.
