Stretch Fabrics for Sports Wear fitted to Women’s Contours – An Indian Perspective

Abstract

Women in India can be classified as among some of the most conservatively dressed in the world. However, the last few decades have seen women excelling exceedingly in the Sports arena across the world. From boxing like Marie Kom and several of our Haryana girls to athletics like P.T Usha and tennis like Sania Mirza and innumerable fields in the world class games like the Olympics and Asiad and many others. They have won laurels everywhere. It is the duty of the sportswear designers to concentrate on this niche area where stretch wear designs are made keeping the Indian Women’s physique in mind. This paper examines the need for designing sportswear suited to the Indian girls and women participating in world level sports competitions. Methodology The qualitative method of direct interview was used. The sampling method used was snowball sampling. While the total sample comprised 25 case studies only four have been used for the present paper.
