In present days, Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) become ubiquitous and find useful in diverse scenario. Routing process is considered as a critical issue in the design of MANET. Since utilization of energy is a major parameter which affects the overall network due to its restricted batter power, energy efficient routing protocol in MANET become mandatory. This paper discusses the application of particle swarm optimization (PSO) with fitness function (FF) called as FF-OLSR algorithm for the optimization of energy utilization in optimized link state routing (OLSR) protocol. In addition, a dynamic replication procedure is invoked to eliminate the path regeneration on the occurrence of link disjoint paths. The use of FF determines the optimal routes between two mobile nodes to minimize the utilization of energy in multipath routing. The presented FF-OLSR model is simulated using Network Simulator 2 (NS-2) and a detailed comparison is made with other routing protocols under several measures.
