The current technical advancements in the Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) has attained wide acceptance by the practitioners. The energy is the main constraint for its successful operation with longer network lifetime. The clustering method is energy efficient which provides the strong, improved coverage with lifetime increased and fault tolerant. The optimal cluster head (CH) selection with CH load balancing are main criterion in MANET. Instead of the mathematical method the evolutionary and soft computing are best approaches to overcome the MANET issues. The research work is concerned with the application of genetic algorithm to choose optimal number of CHs along with chromosome fitness value for giving CH optimal number, and the fuzzy logic method reduces the energy consumption of network. The CH uses the multi-hop routing based on Djikstra’s algorithm for sending the collected data to base station (BS) which also performs the load balancing. The Fuzzy Logic Genetic Algorithm (FLGA) protocol is simulated using NS2 simulator for a fixed size network of 1000 m X 1000 m with 150 nodes for a data packet of 812 transmitted for 10 (dimension) and the simulation is carried out for 30 (dimension). By the comparison of LEACH, IEE-LEACH, MEGA protocol, the proposed FLGA is better in performance. The packet delivery ratio is improved, decreased end to end delay, routing overhead is increased and consumption of energy is decreased.
