Groundwater Contamination by Backwaters of Tungabhadra Drain

Abstract

Groundwater quality has its impact on the economy and development of a region. To overcome these effects and also for proper planning, management of groundwater resources, it is necessary to understand the hydro geochemical processes responsible for contamination of groundwater in study area. The assessment of groundwater pollution in Kondamudi and Bodapadu villages infers that values of most of the parameters are not lie within the prescribed limits of domestic purpose. The Chloride/Bicarbonate-ratios in this region reveals that the groundwater was highly polluted according to Revel’s classification. Appropriate precautionary methods are advised for improvement of groundwater quality in this area.
