The Effect of Catastrophes on a Single Server Queueing System with Finite Capacity

Abstract

In this paper we analyze a single server finite capacity Markovian queueing model with faster and slower rate of arrivals, where the service station is subject to failures due to catastrophic events at any time. When a catastrophe occurs, all present customers are removed from the system and the server is then sent for repair. Service resumes immediately after a repair process completed. The probability generating function technique is employed to solve the steady state equations governing the model and the system characteristics are derived for this model. Finally sensitivity analysis is also performed to test the applicability of the model and relevant conclusion is presented.
