The Enhancement of images is done to get clear information about the details of the digital images. Contrast Enhancement, a technique in Image Enhancement improves the contrast of the image. Several contrast enhancement techniques are available like the histogram equalization, genetic algorithms and fuzzy methods are available for the betterment of the contrast of the images. Low contrast of the images tends to reduce the ability of the observer in analyzing the image. High contrast of the images would lead to over enhancement and the problem of feature loss which may result in an unnatural appearance in the processed images. This paper presents an analysis of the different techniques that are based on the high contrast and low contrast of the images.
