Abstract

The present study explores the reactions and responses from elders and children who are staying in the integrated homes run by Tamil Nadu government. It reveals that there is a strong bond that develops between the different inmates. The study has been conducted in the integrated homes in Tamil Nadu. A random sample of 20 respondents was interviewed based on a pre-defined structured interview schedule and their responses recorded. The mutual sharing and interactions has helped in fostering a bond that has made the residents feel homely even when they are in a government run institution. Long term care for older people and children in India is provided almost exclusively by the independent sector. The results found that the integrated homes are really beneficial in providing psycho-social support to both senior citizens and children.
