Abstract

The most vital aim of Infrared (IR) and Visual (VIS) image fusion is integrating the valuable details and generating a new image with high consistency and comprehensibility for individual visualization. To achieve improved preservation of the target area and its related feature, a Two-Scale Decomposition using Phase congruency and Sum Modified Laplacian with Sturdy Guided Filtering (TSD-PS-SGF) technique has been proposed to increase the strength of fusion process. However, the resultant weighted map obtained by SGF was not sharpened well. Also, the exploit of bright and spatial variances between the respective pixels was needed to generate the weighted maps of source images. Therefore in this article, a TSD-PS-ASGF (Adaptive SGF)-based image fusion method is proposed to enhance the resultant image of the SGF method. In ASGF technique, the regional energy function is adapted to preserve the actual weight propagation structure efficiently with embedding the consequences of distance and intensity variances in the weighted maps. Also, the naive offset selection scheme is applied for sharpening the outcome of SGF technique. Finally, experimental results demonstrate that the proposed TSD-PS-ASGF-based image fusion technique has high efficiency more than TSD-PS-SGF technique in terms of different objective fusion quality criteria.
