Abstract

In this study, locally available and inexpensive materials were used to produce activated carbon, which is widely used in adsorption processes. The activated carbon was prepared from thermally treated of pineapple peel at temperature 455 ̊C for 15 min. The properties of activated carbon were identified by FTIR, SEM, TGA, and XRD technique. The activated carbon was used to adsorb the o-cresolsulfonephthalein dye from aqueous solution and the results show that the activated carbon that prepared from pineapple peel is good absorbent. The influence of PH, temperature, equilibrium time, the adsorbent weight of the adsorption dye was studied, it was shown that the efficiency of adsorption decreased at PH = 10 and increased at PH =3. Also, the data showed that the efficiency of adsorption dye onto activated carbon decreased by increasing temperature and the optimum contact time of absorption is 50 min. and the optimum adsorbent weight is 0.05 g.
