In recent years, the rapid development of Internet, Internet of Things, and Cloud Computing have led to the explosive growth of data in almost every industry and business area. Big data has rapidly developed into a hot topic that tracts extensive attention from academia, industry, and governments around the world. We have been witnessing huge advancements in the scale of data we routinely generate and collect in pretty much everything we do, as well as our ability to exploit modern technologies to process, analyze and understand this data. The intersection of these trends is what is called, nowadays, as Big Data Science. In this paper we analyze in details the building blocks of the software stack for supporting big data science as a commodity service for data scientists. As well as possible solutions to address these challenges. Finally, we conclude the paper by presenting several suggestions on carrying out big data projects.
