A C-shaped Antenna with C-shaped Slots for Multiple Band Applications

In this paper, a novel C-shaped antenna with C-shaped slots fed by a microstrip line is proposed. The antenna has been designed for wideband and ultra-wideband applications. The proposed design shows excellent response at 9.18 GHz, 12.28 GHz and 16.92 GHz with -16.2 dB, -28.3 dB and -4.31 dB respectively. The antenna works well for X-band (8-12 GHz) and Ku-band (12-18 GHz) and may be used in military radar or as DTH antenna since lower frequency bands experience congestion. The antenna occupies very low volume of 36 mm x 34 mm x 1.6 mm and is designed on a single layer FR4-epoxy substrate. The antenna itself is very compact and occupies an area of 240 mm2 (without the feed portion). The simulated performance of the antenna has also been presented.
