The article presents the possibility of creating a digital platform for sustainable development of rural areas and increasing employment of the rural population. It is justified that the digitalization of physically existing objects within the real environment includes the population of rural areas, agricultural enterprises, and ICT infrastructure. The virtual environment is seen as a place for the formation and use of digital technologies and platforms. The institutional environment is responsible for the development of a legislative and regulatory framework, which is based on digital principles as fundamental. Priority directions for establishing sustainable development in rural areas based on digital technologies include improving the institutional environment based on the principle of the priority of sustainable development, developing ICT infrastructure that corresponds to modern requirements and opportunities, and providing public digital education for the population of rural areas and their access to digital technologies.
