Dr. Pieter Sahertian and Umiati Jawas
Abstract

Purpose- This paper aimed to analyze and describe the contribution of local wisdom values to the formation of superior leadership. This paper is expected to provide a new insight that the values of local wisdom can be coupled with modern concepts/theories to shape a leader who excels in an organization. Design- Grounded theory documents and contemporary empirical research findings were reviewed in this study. This study employed a phenomenological approach to understanding a phenomenon in leadership. It consisted ofthree interconnected steps, namely reduction, description, and search for essences. Findings- Phenomenology can be an analytical descriptive approach for understanding leadership development experience. Since the development of leadership itself is a function (depending on) from experience, the development of leadership capabilities can be investigated using a phenomenological framework. Therefore, this study proposes the use of phenomenological approach to identify values of local wisdom reflected on leadership development experiences in the establishment of excellent leadership. Originality/Value- This study used a phenomenological approach to understanding the contribution of the values of local wisdom to excellent leadership.
