Nowadays, the usage of vehicles increases day by day. Character detection is one of the important image processing techniques which is commonly used in Smart transportation system. Vehicle license number plate detection is having a variety of applications such as managing traffic, security, toll gates, etc. Number plate varies from country to country by colour, texture, size, language and geographic condition. There are different techniques, methods and algorithms are being used. This paper brings a study on the different algorithm used in the vehicle number plate detection and advantages and disadvantages used in the algorithms and concludes that the deep learning algorithm provides good outcomes.
