Design and Online Re-tuning of Power System Stabilizers Using Phasor Measurement Unit

Abstract

This paper presents a design procedure for power system stabilizers (PSS) which is used to enhance power system stability by damping low frequency oscillations and its online tuning. The PSS is designed by using Root locus method and Frequency response method. The PSS is retuned online using Phasor Measurement Unit(PMU) data. The online re-tuning of PSS is performed by using local phasor measurement unit (PMU) measurements. The parameters of PSS are identified based on this open loop transfer function. The effectiveness of proposed system has been validated by simulation results.
