Antlion Optimization Algorithm Controlled Chopper Driven PMDC Motor

Abstract

Linear speed-torque characteristics feature of PMDC motor makes it to be used in orthopedic surgeries widely. The PI controller based conventional speed control schemes employed for PMDC motor has the disadvantages of poor steady and transient state characteristics. Several algorithms have been attempted to enhance the performance of this speed control system so far. This paper proposes antlion based meta heuristic algorithm embedded speed control system to improve the performance of the chopper driven PMDC motor. The proposed scheme determines the optimum pulse width required to drive the chopper circuit and controls the speed of the motor. Simulation studies of the proposed model using Matab/Simulink reveals its improved steady and transient state characteristics.
