Business is run in tough competition; adequate decision-making requires a comprehensive in-depth analysis of the outlook and reliable forecasting. There is no successful development for a consulting business without a sound strategy as a complex of measures to achieve a goal. The relevance of this paper lies in the fact that all business operations are fraught with risks and thus require the development and implementation of a business strategy within the scope of various business units. The paper presents an attempt at analysing and modeling performance indicators and competitiveness factors for consulting companies. The theoretical foundations of consulting company operation are determined, strategic alternatives are identified, major types of consulting services are analysed, and development strategies as exemplified by foreign companies are discussed.
