Abstract

The article presents the results of a survey of Muscovites to assess the activities of non-profit organizations providing social services and other types of assistance in Moscow. The leading method of the research was a telephone survey of respondents based on random generation of phone numbers. The sample consisted of 1006 respondents over the age of 18. The focus of the review was on the categories of beneficiaries – direct consumers of the results of the activities of non-profit organizations that were targeted by NPOs in the form of free assistance or provision of various services. It is established that the category of non-profit organizations in Moscow is usually made up of such social groups as disabled people and housewives. At the same time, each recipient receives assistance in several areas at once. Most often, these are: medicine, leisure, education and legal spheres. It was found that slightly less than 2/3 of the non-profit beneficiaries from Moscow are satisfied with the services received. Analysis of the motives for choosing a particular social service provider showed that the respondents in most cases note the importance of the “state” status of the organization or the presence of strict control of activities by the state. This is due to the high importance of direct financial and preferential support from the state for socially vulnerable groups of the population. Only 1 in 10 Muscovites would prefer to apply for social services in non-profit organizations. It is concluded that in the conditions of insufficient public awareness about the activities of NPOs in the social services market, Muscovites do not yet perceive non-profit organizations as a real and worthy alternative to state social services and social assistance.
