Artificial Neural Network based Flow and Level Control for Energy Enhancement in a Pumped Storage Power Plant

Abstract

An innovative scheme based on Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is proposed for implementation of actual moment in pumped storage power station. Due to weaknesses in traditional and existing control schemes caused by time lag and non linearity during various load conditions of the pumped storage power plant, this ANN based scheme is designed. Prototype is developed by mimicking flow & level parameters and it is interfaced with PLC-HMI as that of pumped storage power plant. Initially simulation was performed with traditional PID based on actual data collected from pumped storage plant and then the proposed ANN scheme is executed. Comparison between traditional method and the proposed ANN scheme was done in terms of time domain specifications and performance indices. In the last part of this work, improvement in performances of NN under various load conditions was enhanced.
