Counterfeit currency is a major problem among many countries due to vast increase of printing technology. Many years back, printing is limited to print house only, but nowadays anyone can print currency note anywhere with maximum efficiency using a simple laser printer. Researchers had suggested many diverse approaches to improve currency recognition but they are present in colleges, shopping malls, banks only. The existing system is very costly, often inaccurate and also not available to all common people. To overcome these issues, we proposed a system to recognize counterfeit currency using image processing techniques. The process of recognition is done by comparing the given currency note with reference to the characteristics of original currency note.
