Abstract

In this paper, a novel ultra-wideband microstrip patch antenna with defected ground structure is proposed and explored for ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The proposed antenna having dimensions of 30 X 35 X 1.6 mm3 using a FR-4 epoxy substrate having relative permittivity of εr =4.4. The microstrip patch antenna with DGS operates at frequency range 3.24-14.6GHz with impedance bandwidth of 127.35%. Rectangular patch and ground plane are modified by introducing circular slots at each corner, the functionality of the proposed antenna is analyzed with parameters like VSWR, return loss, gain characteristics, field and current distributions, radiation pattern. The proposed antenna suitable for wireless applications such as WiMAX (3.5-5.5GHz), WLAN (5.15-5.825GHz), C-band (4-8GHz), X-band (8-12GHz) and partially covers Ku-band. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement.
