Abstract

Interconnection of number of devices through internet is defined as Internet of Things (IoT). This IoT technology eliminates the human intervention in controlling of devices. Smart Irrigation is the process of supplying water to the fields in a smart way that reduces the water wastage and increases the water use efficiency. This paper proposed a design of an IoT based smart irrigation system to the fields using raspberry pi 3, arduino controllers, Wi- Fi module along with motors and soil moisture sensors. Also an android application called “blynk app” is integrated in this proposed system. Based on the moisture level of the field and weather report from raspberry pi the system will detect the sufficient water supplying time and supply appropriate amount of water to the field. The arduino controllers will transmit analog data received from sensor to raspberry pi as digital data. To connect raspberry pi and arduino a particular communication mode is provided. If any water shortage occurs in the field then this system inform that as a notification to the user through blynk app. This app allows user to manually control the system. By using this system water usage efficiency is obtained as 90% and system cost is reduced up to 2/3rd than that of drip irrigation system. This proposed system has best use in seasonal crop fields with a perfect water management.
