Investigations on Mechanical Properties of Squeeze Casted Al MMC Reinforced with TIC and BN

Abstract

The aim of the present research is to develop a high performance self lubricating composite in economical way. Aluminium 7075 base matrix is reinforced with titanium carbide (TiC) and boron nitride (BN) through squeeze casting methodology to fabricate the composite. The weight percentage of primary reinforcement (TiC) in Aluminium matrix is varied as 2, 4 and 6 whereas the BN percentage is fixed as 2. The developed composite is tested for its physical, mechanical and functional properties such as density, hardness, tensile and wear resistance. The results confirms that the addition of TiC in Al7075 matrix increases the density, hardness, tensile strength and wear resistance whereas the ductility of the Al decreases with every addition of titanium carbide.
