Wear Behaviour of Aluminium MMC Reinforced with Si3n4 Fabricated Through Squeeze Casting

Abstract

The plan of the current research is to analyze the effect of silicon nitride particle on wear behaviour of the aluminium composite. Aluminium MMC is fabricated through squeeze casting methodology and the amount of silicon nitride percentage in aluminium matrix is varied as 5, 10 and 15 in weight. The developed composite is tested for its wear behaviour through pin on disc wear test under no lubricant condition whereas the experiments were designed through Taguchi method. The parameters considered for wear analysis are silicon nitride %, load and velocity while the response is mass loss. The result reveals that the addition of silicon nitride greatly influences the mass loss i.e. the wear loss decreases when the reinforcement addition increases. ANOVA result also confirms the influence of silicon nitride particulate on wear resistance on aluminium composite.
