Design and Analysis of Compact Dual Band Pentagonal Circular Ring Patch Antenna with Defected Ground Structure for Wireless Applications

Abstract

A new compact dual band pentagonal circular ring patch antenna with defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed and explored for broadband applications. This proposed antenna having measurements of 30 mm×30 mm ×1.6 mm utilizing FR-4 substrate usually available with relative permittivity of εr = 4.4. The patch antenna presented with the DGS works over a resonant recurrence of 5 GHz and 11.4 GHz with good return loss and VSWR. The obtained gain and radiation patternsare much better than the recently reported multi band antennas.The proposed dual band antenna will works in the microwave X and C band applications. The antenna execution is examined using various parametric optimization studies, field distributions and currents. A decent match is acquired between the simulated measured results and those produced.
