Friction Behaviour of Boron Nitride Reinforced Aluminium Metal Matrix Composite for Braking Application

C. Nithiyapathi and P. Jayapradha
Abstract

In this research Boron nitride (3,6 & 9%) reinforced aluminium metal matrix composite was developed by stir casting route. Friction behaviour of fabricated composite was investigated using pin on disk tribometer with varying friction parameter viz applied load and sliding distance. Taguchi approach was adopted for experimental design and to study the role of friction parameter over Coefficient Of Friction (COF). Results revel that reinforcement wt. % and applied load are the governing factor for friction behaviour of composite. Likewise addition of reinforcement decrease the COF value of composite this might be due to the solid lubricating nature of boron nitride.
