Poetry Analysis on Stylistic Grounds - A Survey

Abstract

In natural language processing expressing the style of poetry is a challenging task, it is better possible with studying the stylometric features or various literary devices of Poetry. These features can be computed using computational linguistic methods. In this survey the authors provide an overall picture of various methods and features used to analyze the poetry in various countries languages. The features include meter, imagery, rhythm, rhyme, and metaphor. In this work we also discussed different classification tasks employed using these features includes poetry style detection, subject based poetry classification and author ship attribution. Finally discuss the importance of the features in success of applications and touch upon the limitations of the methods based on their applications.
