Abstract

This Paper presents the application of modern method of Diagnosing & Measuring Partial Discharge on the GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) by using ultra high frequency (UHF) sensors. Many tests will be done to protect the power system equipment’s especially on Extra High voltage, High voltage equipment’s like GIS, Power transformers, EHV/HV cables & PD is one of the predominant phenomenon in all most all high voltage equipment’s. PD test is considered to be one of the most advanced & significant test, out of many tests that are performed on the GIS. Partial discharge is a localized dielectric breakdown of small portion of a solid or liquid electrical insulation system under high voltage stress. The old & traditional method for the measurement of PD on GIS is by comparison of induced & circulating currents, analog filters & here we proposed new digitized method where the PD pulse get pre amplified digitized by an analog/digital converter , real digital filters are used making it a true digital system. All this information is transmitted via fiber optic cables which are used for the measurement & recording purpose in special designed PDMS panels.
