Abstract

Solar energy is the one of the renewable energy resources. Parabolic trough collector (PTC) technology works by the solar energy. A PTC system with aperture area of 4.5 m2 was modeled, manufactured and assessed in this paper. In order to analyses the thermal performance of the PTC, were conducted many experimental tests in keeping with the ASHRAE 93–1986 standard. The thermal efficiency and incidence angle modifier of the collector wascalculated. The experimental performance investigations were presented in four typical sunny days at four mass flow rates (2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 LPM). Fuel oil was the heat transfer fluid (HTF). The measurements time are recorded from 8:00 h to 16:00 h. The intercept and the slope provided by the efficiency curve of the collector were found to be 0.405and0.518, respectively. The efficiency of collector increased with increased the mass flow rate where, the maximum efficiency achieved about 57% at maximum mass flow rate 3.5 LPM.
