Categorization and Comparison of Various Tracking Algorithm for Photovoltaic Application

Solar power is a renewable energy source which is a boon to electric power generation. It has become essential nowadays on account of the inadequacy and environmental brunt of conventional fuels. Solar photovoltaic based energy generation is an important substitute for many purposes with the features of being clean, environment friendly, non-exhaustible, sustainable and available throughout the world. The MPPT technique is used with power electronic circuits to harvest maximum power from the panel. There is indefinitely many tracking method found in literature. For beginners and MPPT users, it is difficult to understand and select the best one suited for particular application. Different ways of grouping MPPT technique is explained in detail. Some method of each group is analyzed in detail and at the end a comparative table is presented. It also provides insights on selection criteria that should be in choosing best MPPT for specific application. MPPT is achieved by interfacing a DC-DC converter between the panel and load. The reason for choosing boost converter is its essential properties of fast response, simple circuit, very large range of power tracking efficiency and so on. The performance analysis is executed on MATLAB/Simulink Software.
