Abstract

In developing nations of the world, many issues come across transportation system like traffic congestion, pollution emission, and worst weather condition. To overcome these issues intelligent transportation system is used which provides major advancement in transportation system performance using intelligence. The system reduces congestion in traffic, increases safety and convenience to traveler. Recently the ITS system with road side unit (RSU) infrastructure provides the real time information to the driver which take precautions before travelling to that place. Wireless technologies are used for connecting RSU with on board unit (OBU) in the vehicles. Wireless technologies preferred for systems are wireless sensor network (WSN), global positioning system (GPS), internet of things (IoT). ITS also includes parking guidance systems for drivers, vehicle to vehicle communication (V2V) and vehicle to road side unit infrastructure. IoT based intelligent transportation systems are designed to support the smart city vision, which aims to give the advanced and powerful communication technologies for the upgrading comfort to the citizens. The paper contains survey of intelligent transportation systems designed so far.
