Exploring the Potential of Vegetable Oils as an Alternative for I.C. Engine Fuels

Dr. Kamal Kishore Pathak
Abstract

The increasing requirement of petroleum products due to rising motorization and industrialization is resulting harmful environmental effects. These petroleum products are also depleting in nature, therefore there is a requirement for alternative fuels, which can be both sustainable as well as less polluting. Vegetable oils, producing from biomass, forests, and vegetable oil crops are potentially effective substitute for IC engine fuels (gasoline, diesel). In this research, the potential & emission characteristic of vegetable oils in a IC engine is investigated and compared with that of conventional IC engine fuels. This paper also discusses scope and challenges of utilizing vegetable oils as an IC engine fuels.
