Institutional Theory: A General Review

Abstract

This article sets out to explore the elements of institutional theory in research. It is recognized that institutional theory is widely used as a reference for many scholars in the area of organizational analysis, logistics, halal logistics, accounting, supply chain management, operation management, economics, business, as well as management. The aim of this study is to address the central of institutional theory that can be used as a main reference for future scholars as their underpin theory. Institution are basic domain for social, political and organization. The basis of this theory is that, the institution shapes the behavior, perception and intruistic. Additionally, the fundamental of institutional theory is related with the effort by the institution to interact with its surrounding social system. In this paper, the authors provide a general review by focusing on the concept of institutions, the characteristics of institutions, as well as the three key elements discussed in institutional theory.
