The azo ligand 4-((H-imidazol-2-yl) diazenyl)-1-5-dimethyl -2- phenyl -1H-pyrazol-3(2H)-one (IDDPP) was prepared by diazotization coupling reaction between 4-aminoantipyrin with imidazole compound in alkaline solution. The new metal complexes of Co (II) and Ni (II) were prepared by the reaction between these metal salts with the prepared new azo-ligand at 60 oC for 1hr.The structural for these complexes and the ligand characterized by using Uv-visible, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and 1H NMR spectroscopies, and conductance measurements. Furthermore, studied the composition of the complexes by mole ratio and continuous variation methods after specify optimum condition such as pH, time of stability. The optimum pH of formation of nickel (II) complexes was pH= 7 at λmax = 582nm, while the pH of cobalt (II) complex equal to 9 at λmax =523 nm. The molar ratio of the two complexes was (1:2) metal to ligand and the suggested of the shape of these complexes was octahedral by coordinate of two moles of the bidentate ligand and 2mole of chloride ion in the octahedral environment.
