Faults on transmission line will be repaired as soon as possible. The complexity of the power system network increases when integration of hybrid system is done with the microgrid. During integration synchronization problem occur in the power system network. To sort out the issue of synchronization different power electronics converters are used in the power system network. Also the occurrence of fault increases in the microgrid after integration of hybrid system as the direction of current is bidirectional. So clearing the fault is very essential for smoother operation of microgrid. Smaller time for fault clearing has many benefits such as less chance of damaging equipment, increasing profit, and increased customer service due to better quality and power supply reliability. Fast restore supply is possible if the fault method is used in the exact location. This paper gives the basic idea of calculating the fault location using the method of impedance and the method of traveling wave in a power system based on wind generator connected microgrid. For the purpose of security, one technically feasible 3-bus system integrated with different types of distribution generations is considered and is simulated using the MATLAB / SIMULINK framework. Fault location is accomplished using impedance-based method and travelling wave method. The results of the comparison are presented which show the improved performance of both methods.
