Perspectives on Networking in the Management of International Joint Ventures

Abstract

This article is concerned with the use of networks by international joint ventures manufacturing firms in developing countries to facilitate their entry into international markets which had hitherto been too difficult for them to penetrate. It will commence by examining the different kinds of problem faced by such firms when trying to access new foreign markets, and will proceed to a review of the current state of research into networks between firms for the purpose of overcoming such problems and thus maximizing success. The next section will deal with the selection procedure used to choose the pieces of research most appropriate to this article. A discussion and analysis will follow, including both international joint ventures grouping and subcontracting networks. The final section will be organized as a list of findings that may be of use to manufacturing firms in developing countries undergoing the same problems as those studied.
