Abstract

Multilevel inverters are the preferred choice in industry for high power and medium voltage application. The latest research trends of multilevel inverters are optimization of output voltage, total harmonic distortion minimization, different modulation techniques and various switching configurations. Bearing this in mind, this paper presents a DVR (Dynamic Voltage Restorer) having Asymmetrical cascaded multilevel inverter employing lesser number of power electronic switching equipment and selective harmonic elimination through pulse width modulation technique by Grey Wolf Optimization which generates optimal switching angles to eliminate lower order harmonics. The overall THD is reduced and thereby the power quality is improved. The results were then compared with Genetic Algorithm regarding performance, Total Harmonic distortion reduction and convergence rate.
