Identifying and Detecting Dynamic Island in DG Connected Power System

C. Shilaja
Abstract

Nowadays People are shifting to distributed generations (DG) according to the new technology development such as solar, wind, and etc. Since the latest technologies generates more power it makes people to distillate more on DGs. So, distributed generation gets more attentions in power system industries to regulates power demand and environmental requirements. In the DGs, Islanding will be created due to only a portion of the DG is used electrically isolated in the entire power system and the remaining portion is continuously energized by DG. One of the important process is to detect the island during the power connection in the DG. During islanded generators failed to trip, a greater number of issues are created on the power generators and loads. From 100ms to 300ms, the DGs need to be isolated once loss of supply occur. The islanding detection devices which are used to isolate the DGs at this condition are called as anti-islanding devices. In this paper, a detailed description of the islanding detection methods and implementation of the same in IEEE 9-bus system with multiple DGs have been presented.
