Abstract

The current challenges and threats to the economic security of enterprises of the fuel and energy complex (FEC) in the northern resource-extracting region have been reviewed in the article. The hierarchical structure of the factors that influence the economic security of the FEC enterprises in the northern resource extracting region has been supplemented by network factors, which is due to the negative changes taking place in the industry: deterioration of the resource base, introduction of economic sanctions, and weak innovation activities. The methodological approaches to assessing the economic security of economic agents have been reviewed, and the main drawback of these approaches has been revealed: the focus on the internal environment. The authors’ approach to assessing the economic security of the FEC enterprises in the northern resource-extracting region has been proposed – the network one, which estimates the influence of the network determinants, which the enterprise is a part of, on the level of its economic security by calculating an integral indicator consisting of four blocks of the determinant components in order to ensure the economic security. The criteria for determining the influence of network factors on the economic security of the enterprise and their characteristics for the subsequent decisionmaking in interfirm interaction have been presented in the article.
