Abstract

Cognitive radio (CR) technique and Next Generation (XG) 5G cellular standards are considered to be future innovations. Both can be used for smart city advancement. The main mote of the paper is to enhance current knowledge and technical concepts for the usage of cognitive radio (CR) technology in the implementation of the Next Generation (5G) wireless network. “Cognitive radio” is considered to be one of the utmost innovative technologies for forthcoming wireless transmission networks as this may improve spectrum utilization efficiently and address the issue of spectrum shortages. A fundamental concept in CR network is to allow all new devices and networks to reuse the already reserved frequency bands for primary devices (licensed users) by monitoring intrusion between existing users at an acceptable level. Fifth generation (5G) communication systems are expected to be intelligent and be able to efficiently utilize their network resources. Communication networks of the fifth generation (5G) are supposed to be smart and enable to use available resources effectively. This research paper proposes the usage of CR networks to implement wireless networks of the 5G standard in a smart town.
