Numerical Study of the Stress State of High Earth Dams under Basic Loads

Abstract

The stress-strain state calculation of high earth dams, taking into account structural features and elastic characteristics of soil was conducted based on the developed methodology, algorithm and program. The problem was solved by a numerical method - the finite element method. Calculation results gave a distribution pattern of isolines of equal displacements (vertical and horizontal ones), normal and tangential stresses in the body of the considered earth dam. A number of physical conclusions have been made related to the construction and safe operation of high earth dams.
