The article examines the role of NGOs in developing the education sector in Malaysia by focusing analytically on the Muslim Youth Movement Malaysia (ABIM) which is well-known as NGO in education. Its main objective is to identify the concept of non-governmental bodies (NGO) and the pressure group for education with a particular focus on ABIM. It is implemented to explain educational thought brought by ABIM in Malaysia. In addition, this study also aims to analyse educational institutions established by ABIM. By using document analyses and information gathered from interviews as research instruments, the findings of the study show that ABIM is an NGO that has characteristics as a pressure group on issues such as political, economic, social, cultural, legal and educational issues. The findings also show that ABIM‟s educational ideas, namely „Islamisation‟ understanding has brought changes to the national education system, including the implementation of integrated education, and several educational institutions under its management has helped meet the demands of the local community.
