Naysha Ratde and Rohee Khan
Abstract

The emergence of 5G technology signifies a transformative milestone in the evolution of wireless communication, holding vast potential for enhancing the infrastructure and functionality of smart cities. As urban environments become increasingly digitized, the demand for ultra-reliable, high-speed, and low-latency connectivity continues to surge. This paper investigates the fundamental characteristics of 5G networks and evaluates their impact on the development of smart cities. It emphasizes the role of 5G in enabling real-time data exchange, massive machinetype communications, and intelligent automation across various urban services. Drawing upon established literature, the study discusses the architectural foundations of 5G, the integration of Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC), and the challenges associated with health, security, and deployment. The findings aim to present a consolidated understanding of how 5G can serve as the backbone of future urban ecosystems.
