The global photovoltaic (PV) industry is witnessing a stellar growth since the last decade. This prodigious growth also demands an effective cleaning methodology as the PV installations are exposed to a variety of dusty environments all through the year. Initially, the paper discusses about the cleaning processes of the past and the present; followed by a review of Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, cloud storage and image processing. An IoT based, cloud storage and image processing equipped cleaning scheme is then proposed for existing domestic and commercial PV installations. The system architecture and a flowchart describing the cleaning mechanism are presented henceforth.
